: Fuel Filter(s) question?

I just changed the paper fuel filter in my quadrajet carb on my 67 Chevelle. I was then later reading where an inline glass fuel filter is better. So I installed one in-between the pump and the carberator. My question is, should I remove the paper filter and just run the glass filter, or is it okay to have both or will two filters restrict some fuel flow. Thanks.

The carb filter should be enough. After all, that was the intial OEM design ;) If you install an inline filter, it will probably starve for fuel with an additional restriction. Give it a shot and see... Let us know how it turns out

1. Glass is bad. It breaks. Frankly, I thought glass fuel filters were illegal under federal law--but--apparently I'm mistaken. Either that, or people are selling clear plastic fuel filters and calling them "glass".

2. If you have a filter spliced into the pressure side of the pump, the rubber hoses can--and will--deteriorate. When they get bad enough, they spray gasoline under pressure into the air stream from the cooling fan; and from there onto the distributor and/or exhaust manifolds. I don't consider this a good idea; and neither did most OEMs--generally, they went out of their way to provide METAL plumbing on the pressure side of the pump.

I use the two sintered bronze filters that go into the inlets of my Holley only, and never had a problem.

I use a K&N billet filter between my pump and Holley. Expensive but cleanable and reusable. Probably overkill in most situations, like mine.
