Nice documentation, but I don't understand how a car built the first week of July (trim tag) has an engine that's built on the 11th of December as documented by POP and pad stamp, and isn't sold new from the dealership until the 26th of February, 1971.
Also totally incorrect interior and missing its vinyl top, but that's not what has me stumped.
Any ideas? It's a beautiful car......

Yeah but still nice :D
high 30s maybe just into the 40s is my guess, but it's eBay, so we'll probably never know the final sale price.

Okay, how can you tell the dash is a repo from the pictures???
HerrKooled Feb 4th, 08, 6:27 AM so what was the diffrence between the sport wheel and standard steering wheel for the SS in 70' anyways?
Klamath Feb 4th, 08, 7:18 AM What does the invoice say? "Plus $16 for ????"?
sparky1698 Feb 4th, 08, 9:50 AM Okay, how can you tell the dash is a repo from the pictures??? Good question. Also how can you tell the Bumper is a repo? Still a nice looking car.
sparky1698 Feb 4th, 08, 9:52 AM so what was the diffrence between the sport wheel and standard steering wheel for the SS in 70' anyways? The optional cushion grip wheel looks like the one in the picture and the standard wheel is the hard plastic with SS in the center of the shroud.
oldtimebaseballfan Feb 4th, 08, 10:04 AM I think this car has been discussed here before. Some questions about the car but it does appear to be a decent car either way.
69396ss Feb 4th, 08, 12:38 PM I prefer to have items wrong.... I prefer to have the owner know they're wrong.
I know I can't afford to buy a flawless car..... I'd prefer to buy a exceptionally solid body and frame, and detail it to perfection myself.
This...... Looks like a pretty good start to me.
Often times however the seller thinks it's already a Flawless example and it's difficult explaining to them why they shouldn't get a Huge premium.
I'd would personnaly need a closer look at that VIN Stamp though.

Ahh thanks Jon, i preffer the standard

.
I would venture to say that the car was either being driven by someone who owned the dealership or management. The car also could have been wrecked and in the Bodyshop for a while. Most of these muscle cars weren't polished and driven on Sundays, they were flogged heavily by most owners.
Looks like the restorer took some liberties with the original configuration. Good for him, bad for re-sale value to the purists. Looks great though because that's what most people want anyway.
Robinls5 Feb 4th, 08, 8:03 PM Dash-- Org. SS dash has the raised letters " Wipers " and other raised letters, Org. letters are more bold in size and can be painted with a brush.
The letters in the repro dashes are the width of a line on paper that a ball point would make, Very narrow.
Bumpers-- When you see HEX HEAD bolts on the bottom of the bumper " Caution " My 70 Org. bumper has Square holes for chrome capped bumper bolts, A lot of repro bumpers have round not square bolt holes.
Square bolt in a round hole?

NOTHINBUT69s Feb 4th, 08, 10:10 PM Looks like a pretty nice car but I thought 69 was the last year for parchment interior and in 70 GM went with white only (no off white or parchment)
Jimmy P Feb 4th, 08, 10:49 PM In 70 it was Pearl I think the same color as parchment ????

Bob:noway: Thanks for the explaination. Im going to check further on my bumper bolts. I know that the front bumper on my 70 is a original bumper that was replated in the late 80's but the lower bolts are hex bolts and I think we probably put the wrong bolts in when we put the car back together. Thanks again for the info :)
