I called a man today and ask what he charged for putting my engine on the dyno and checking it out. I also told him it has never been fired up. If said it would be $400.00. Is this good , bad, or average?

That's exactly what it cost me for an all day dyno session. I supplied the fuel.
Actually, I got to come in the afternoon before and set the motor up...ready to crank the next morning.
Broke it in right on the dyno, making all initial adjustments. Went for an early lunch to let it cool down. Came back and did probably a dozen pulls with various combos and carb settings.

I paided $60 an hour for dyno time for my 406. It took about 4 hours including the break in time. The dyno is well worth it from breaking the engine in properly to fine tuning it. Timing was tweaked, jetting adjusted, and then played around with spacers and finally an all out Holley HP race carb versus my 750 vac sec Holley. When it was done, I knew my setup was adjusted to the best it could be. No second guessing.

For that price, ask what is included. Do you get to be there to watch while he does adjustments or are you expected to make your own adjustments and he runs the dyno?

$400.00 for how long a session? For a full day that is about what I would expect. You have to figure a couple hours just for setup and tear down. Are you helping or just a spectator? I paid $360.00 but I helped with the setup.

On the phone he told me that was $400.00 for checking the timing and jetting and break in. He said it would take about 4-5 hours. He didn't say if it was him or me doing the work. I'm guessing it was him since he didn't ask.
