My friend has a gas leak after he shuts the engine down, hot or cold. It looks like its coming from the transfer slots and out the throttle shaft. He has turned the fuel leavel down with no improvement. Its fine when the engine is running, I can't see raw fuel coming from the slots. Any ideas?

I have had this EXACT problem...You didnt say what kind of Holley- BUT- mine was/is a 650 vacuum secondary w/metering PLATE.

The cause was that metering plate PLATE (the one that goes on the plate and the gasket) was NOT flush, and the little clutch screws werent tight.
What I did was take a nice flat piece of steel, and hammer the crap out of that plate until i could SEE That it was flush. Sometimes when it sticks, you take a sdriver and pop it off when doing a rebuild. Thats when it gets a bend in it, and causes that leak. Mine use to do this like clock work. BUT- after I pounded the h*ll out of that plate- I didnt get one drop of anything from that carb- and it could sit for months at a time. Mine too used to do it hot or cold.

This problem is on the front but there could be something going on with the metering block. Thanks.

Id look for loose jets, power valve gasket wrong or not positioned right, OR a torn gasket somewhere. The metering block may also be slightly warped depending on the carbs age. IF it was flooding, it would more than likely be leaking from the boosters..

Still, for anybody that has had this problem from the rears on a vac sec carb, take a look at that plate.
