ok i got a 71 396 and about to put my heads on i have the steel shims .020 or so. and on top of the block theres 3 big water holes and on the gasket the holes r way smaller do i have to drill them out to be bigger.
or just put them on also should i spray the cooper head gasket spray
also for the pushrods from rear to front and driver side and passenger side wut size pushrod goes first the samaller one or the longer one,

Ok, heres how it should look. Notice the top holes on the head gasket are very small. This is ok.

As far as the push rods. You will be able to tell where the shorter ones will go. Just play with them and you'll get them figured out.

ok thanks so yea im still stuck with the pushrods witch is the smaller vavle and larger vavle. is the smaller valve intake or exhaust
