Jim, if you have any documentation on your car or if you can post some pics of the engine codes, dates, VIN and trim tag, your car would be an interesting source for information.

Nice car..seller should have taken the $47K for it

Somethings not right, early Jan., Atlanta vin for an L-78? I thought that option was phased out the first week of Dec. Possible restamped motor were someone didn't do their homework? I wonder what the pad looks like under the paint?

Way to many things wrong here besides the dates and numbers deal.Would like to see the dates and casting numbers under the valve covers. The air looks factory installed including all the ductwork, dashboard, and underhood stuff. No L78 cars with air.Car should have had smog,no deep pulleys,no plugs in exhaust manifolds.Whoever buys this car will always have that cloud of uncertainity following you around.:noway:

Yep, that car is an abortion of incorrectness. Hopefully, nobody gets duped by this fake.......and a bad one at that.

I couldn't help but notice it has 15" wheels as well. Has a rubber hose connection at the carb. The wrong shifter and other things. I don't know if I could turn over 47 g's for a car like that. If the milage is true why have all those things been changed? Nice car but not for that kind of money with no paper trail.

like others have said. countless things wrong and a serious lack of detail work. Looks like a 25K car to me with no documents.

There is a dead giveaway if you look at the Tonawanda stamped engine suffix.

That, and it looks like the CON VIN is not of the right format. LOTS of wrong parts here. :noway:
Not an L78, as the man says, I Guarantee it!

This was James first post on TC. From the looks of it, maybe his last. You guys either scared or shamed him right off the website.

It sounds like the shady business was perpetrated by the previous owner (if that's true). It's a really nice car, just not the collector piece that it was portrayed as. It may not have been built for devious purposes. Heck, that's the way I built my car, I wanted the period correct big block p/s stuff and had at least one of every single factory a/c component, including dash and firewall. Some of it stashed away since 1980. It wasn't until last February that I finally came to the realization that I was never gonna put air in my car. I sold everything to make a none a/c '66 appear as a/c had been installed from the factory (still have collateral parts thay I'll never need now). But it's understandable to want to build a car "fully loaded". It's the deviants that CONSPIRE to defraud that are the problem.

My tuition tells me that James had a soft spot for Chevelles, ran across this freshly restored '70, had the money to afford it and just enough knowledge to get himself in trouble. He likely spent a pretty penny (before prices skyrocketed), didn't drive it but 4K (post restoration) miles in 5+ years of ownership to protect his investment, saw the record Barrett Jackson figures of recent, then tried to cash out. Only to find out that potential buyers at the next level can be alot less recreational and alot more scrutinizing.

I'll bet he's in for more diappointment before it's over. Just wait until he finds out that half the sheet metal isn't original. Look's to me that at least part of the trunk has been replaced. All of the "perfect" restorations done on these cable TV programs, start off as total POS rust buckets. I can't help but wonder how many fully documented, factory this, factory that, cars that pass the BJ auction block, were actually dredged out of an irrigation canal somewhere.

James,
If you like the car, keep it and drive it.
If you NEED the money, get what you can out of it and get on with your life.
If your the schiester, trying to screw someone..... Well stop it, it's just not nice.

I doubt that it is the latter, he used his full name and location
