How far into the pump does it need to go? Got a Milodan pick-up, with a sealed power pump. The pick-up does not fit into the pump very far. Only about a 1/4". Anybody got an Idea? Also have a melling 77hv, didn't fit that either.

1/4 of an inch is fine if it's a tight fit and if you braze or weld it to the pump body.

Was planing on putting a small weld on it to make sure it doesn't go anywhere. Dave

Quarter of an inch isn't very far, even if you do plan to weld/braze the pickup tube. Make sure that there are no burrs on the tube, as well as the pump inlet. Then put the pickup in the freezer overnight and put a heatlamp on the pump for the same length of time. Using pieces of wood (2" X 4", 1" X 2", etc), make a support for the oil pump to hold it steady on your workbench.
With the pump supported, put some 30# oil on the pump inlet and the pickup tube and drive the tube in with light persuasion from a small hammer.
Be sure to remove the spring and plunger from the pump before welding or brazing the pickup into place.

Make sure it's tight and spot weld it. I lost a small block in my c/ed because we forgot to weld up the pick up.

I just took it to the machine shop, they dissasembled it and drove it in all the way. Then Tim brazed it together. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Must be nice to have all the tool's at your disposal. Thank's for all the suggestion's, Dave
