I am considering using my ET streets at the track next week if the weather is good for them. I did a little searching but I wanted some fresh info.
The tires are old (couple years) but in good condition (I don't use them alot).
I was dumb and bought 26" tall ones, but in this case that could be a plus becuse they will be within +- 1" of my street tires, so I am considering using them instead even though I can never hook them at NED (that and people never do the 1st car prestage, 2nd car prestage, then both cars stage.. so people have time to do what they need to do.. for me anyway.. I always wish the starting line was a bit more relaxed)...
Ok to the point.
I have a set of 26*10.5R15 (which is like 8" tread) ET streets.
When I was at LVD I would go around the water box and then back into it slowly covering most of the tire, roll back out, and then burn them in 2nd until I got a good haze of smoke then prestaged. Problem with that is it takes a long time and annoys other people I think.
I was setting PSI at 16 cold and it would usually raise to 18 hot. I was told though since my car is unusually heavy that I might do better with higher PSI in each tire cold.
I was wondering if it's even necessary to use the water box with ET streets or can I just dry heat/burn off the crud on them?
And my second, yet somewhat unrealted, is I notice some cars drive through the water box straight. Now I am not a real racer, its a hobby that is driving me insane (heh), and varying people do this.. they go front tires right through it, then back tires right through it.
Wouldn' this drag water out past the water box? or does it not matter?
I just want to do this efficently as possible because I have alot of spare time at the moment and I want to get as much track time/ shakedown time in as possible.
Can I just skip the water box? I don't like the idea of burning out in it like I see some folks do because I can only imagine whats getting flung around the inside of the wheelwell and I only have one bottle of burnout guard left and it took me like 6 wash mits and 1.5 years to get all the rubber off my car when I did the stand still burnout from hell one time, and there are still chunks of it hidden under the car.... (this wasn't at the track <cough>) I'd wash the car then catch 40 rubber chunks in my wash mitten and have to scrap the thing for fear of scraping the paint, even though I manage to get spider web looking marks in it no mattter how careful I try to be.
