I just removed my seats and old carpet to install some new carpet. Under the old carpet is some black stuff, insulation and sound deadener I presume that feels and looks like thick tar paper. It's all crumbly and old and needs replaced. Does anyone know where to get that stuff, or will some thick regular roof tar paper work just as good. I'll just bet that roofing tar paper is alot cheaper than the real floor insulation if you can use it. So again will just regular tar paper work, if not, where can I get that stuff. Thanks in advance.

I used a foil covered type of insulation that I bought at Lowes. Used a can of spray glue to put it down and it worked great. Formed really nice around all of the curves. I think it was around $25 for the roll. Something like 16" wide by 50'. I wish I could post some pictures, but can't at the moment.
If you do a search, there was a few threads on this subject

Mark, make sure that you don't get the foil covered insulation with the air bubbles inside.
