Hey guys (and ladies) I need a little help on my transmission gasket replacement. It's a 350 turbo tranny and a 350 engine in my 1967 Chevelle. I am currently doing the job as we speak (sort of). I am wondering about the bolt pattern tightening. I know that if you do it wrong you can screw it up and it will still leak. I bought a NEW pan with an oil tran plug (old one didn't have one, that was messy) and a new gasket (a rubber one even though I wanted cork but this was all I could come up with). I then spraid an addhesive from Napa, can't think of the name of the stuff but it was recommended by several friends. Do you guys know where I can find the correct bolt pattern tightening sequence and what are the bolts supposed to be torqed to? By the way I do NOT have a torque wrench, do I need one? Should I even put on the pan without one? Although at this point the car is partially hanging out of my garage and I can't move it and I obviously can't close the garage... so should I go borrow/buy a torque wrench? Also I can't spell to save my life and yes I am a teacher lol. Also one last question, do I use permatex as a sealer? Do I use ANYTHING as a sealer? The person who put the tranny pan on last DID and the filter was ALL gummbed up with permatex.
Here are my questions again because I know I was rambling:
1. Where can I find the correct torq sequence on the internet?
2. Can I torq this pan down correctly WITHOUT a torq wrench?
3. Do I use a sealer of any kind?

Thanks for your replies, the sooner the better!

1- I've never see a torque sequence, just SNUG all the bolts the same.
2-yes
3-no

Watch for the gasket to start to sqeeze.

Ok, so I took off the old pan and gasket, and put on a NEW pan and gasket. I torqued down all of the bolts to 120 inch pounds all the way around in a criss/cross pattern making sure not to tighten down one side too much. After tightening and a night of sitting, I checked the pan I put underneath the car now has fluid in it. So it is still leaking. Any ideas?

Are you sure it's leaking from the pan gasket? It could be leaking above the pan and running down onto the pan.
Wipe everything down real well and check around where the linkage goes into the case. Check around the oil cooler lines.
It's unlikely that the new pan gasket is leaking that bad.
