: Camel back heads vs. Sportman II's

I am running some ported and poslished 67cc, 2.05 valved camel back heads. These are the highest performing camel backs made according to the stamped numbers on them. I run flat 12.0's on motor and low 11's on 100 shot of nitrous. This is done on 93 pump gas.

A local racer is selling some Sportman II heads in good condition for $300. These have 200cc runners and 64cc chambers. Is it worth the money and going to the trouble of replacing what I already have? Are these Sportman II heads that much better than my ported an polished camel backs. Engine specs are in my signature.

Thanks for your help,
Daniel

I have no advise for you, but I just wanted to tell you that your engine specs are NOT in your signature.

Just a guess here, but if the work done on your cammel humps was done right I bet there would be little if any difference in power. How many rpms are you spinning this engine? I'm sure sportsman II heads are much stronger though.

I'd expect the Sportsman heads to be substantially better than what you have. Mind you, I'm just a fan of aftermarket heads in general, and have no direct experience with the Sportsman heads.

Unless you port the bowls on the Sportsman heads you are probably better off with what you have.

heck 300 bucks??? Are they complete? If so buy them. Heck 300 bucks is nothing for a set of 200 cc heads. If for no other reason than a future buildup!!

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think that there would be much difference. I usually cross the line at 6200 rpms, and I shift at 5800-5900 rpms. This is with a 26" tire and 4.10 gears. My dyno results show that my engine horsepower peaks out at around 5900 rpms. I may go to some of the new M/T radial drag tires. I hear they are better than the BF goodrich drag radials. I am using Hoosier drag slicks, but it is kind of a pain having to change tires at the track. 28" tires should drop my rpms at the line to about 6000.
