: Alf Weibe Suspension ??
CDN SS Feb 22nd, 05, 9:28 PM Does anyone here run his stuff?? He seems to have a strong reputation with A body cars running in Stock and SuperStock ........ is it how he sets up the suspension or is it the parts he uses ....... similar to Dick Miller stuff or ?? Bill
Bob West Feb 22nd, 05, 9:35 PM The only one that I know that runs it is Ed Bigley, not sure how to get ahold of him these days. He goes by Racer1320 at www.brackettalk.com (http://www.brackettalk.com) or www.godragracing.com (http://www.godragracing.com) not sure of other boards he frequents.
Motor Martyr Feb 22nd, 05, 9:48 PM Not anything like Dick Miller's setup.
Bob Tiley Feb 22nd, 05, 9:54 PM Just saw a super stock car for sale in National Dragster this week that has the Alf Weibe setup. I'm sure he could answer your questions.

Not anything like Dick Miller's setup.
Brian , can I assume you have seen it ? what is the difference
Bob thanks for the #
Harold Sutton Feb 22nd, 05, 10:24 PM I think they call it a truck arm suspension i think but i only have a vague idea of what it looks like. I think racer 1320 could tell you all about it. I've found that the main component of getting sufficient traction is to make sure the wheel is about as wide as the tire. The late model firebirds and Z-28s with aftermarket torque arms bite exceptionally well.
Motor Martyr Feb 22nd, 05, 10:50 PM Gotta See it to believe it.
69shovel&90454SS Feb 23rd, 05, 1:33 AM I have talked to Alf Weibe personally, he is local to my area and a very helpful and friendly guy, and while his suspension works very well for drag racing, he is quite adamant about not using it on a mostly street driven car due to stresses on the rearend and mounting points under street driving conditions.
CDN SS Feb 23rd, 05, 8:28 AM Thanks 69 Shovel , that was the kind of info I was looking for, I am well aware of the success his stuff has in NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing in fact recall seeing Alf race a Buick SS a few years back that launched very straight, so that is why I asked if anyone familar with it so I could understand if it made sense for a street / strip car , I rec'd a PM from someone who told me same thing .Thanks
TWC Feb 23rd, 05, 11:16 AM Brian do you have a picture of this system ? Looked thru you web pic's and didn't see it. Anyone else have some photo's?
Motor Martyr Feb 23rd, 05, 12:06 PM sorry, no pictures.
TJC Feb 23rd, 05, 12:13 PM SHHHH! It's a secret!

10secBu Feb 23rd, 05, 12:23 PM The Alf system has alot of mystery about it for no real reason. The upper control arms are replaced by a wishbone system which centers the rear housing left to right.
The lower control arms are replaced by a unique set of ladder bars that bolt in. They are adjustable and have the front pivot point lowered a couple inches below the stock mounting point. It's my guess this is to reduce the violent shock such a short ladder bar would provide.
jakeshoe Feb 23rd, 05, 1:04 PM I have a friend that is a distributor for Weibe's stuff if anybody gets real intersted.
He also races A body G/SA and K/SA...
Harold Sutton Feb 23rd, 05, 1:08 PM I wonder what good that would do since the upper control arms go out at an angle and keep the housing centered anyhow. Raising the attachment points at the housing end moves the instant center rearward and hits the tires harder which is the way Dick Miller and Lakewood no hop bars do it. Actually if you get wheels that put the tire footprint flat on the ground everything works better. My sons car never planted great untill we got 10" wheels, now one friend said " if i knew that a Chevelle could be made to leave like that i wouldn't have changed to ladder bars". The torque arm, late model, Firebirds and Camaros are awesome.
CDN SS Feb 23rd, 05, 8:36 PM 10sec Bu , Thanks for that info It seems some here were determined to keep this a big secret!!!
I now realize this system only for a dedicated race car , however in the spirit of increased knowledge does anyone know if Alf uses bushings or rod ends at the pivot points ?? Would the lower front pivot point on the lower control arms also help to improve the ICL ...... the lowers I currently use are made longer to accomplish same thing FWIW Bill
10secBu Feb 24th, 05, 8:18 AM Spherical rod ends on the front ladder bar pivot and also on the wishbone.
pdq67 Feb 24th, 05, 1:18 PM Pictures please, anybody????
