I have a 350 block bored to 355 with stock heads and intake, and a 2-bbl carb. The cam I believe is a Comp Cam something 272, unsure if it's an XE272 or what. A mechanic told me that the cam is trying to pull in a lot more air and gas than the carb can make up for in gas, so I'm planning to upgrade intake/carb to 4-bbl setup. I have heard that 600cfm or maybe 650 would suffice. However, I am planning to build a 383 stroker (from a different block than the current 350), and wanted to use the same upgraded intake and carb once I got around to building it. My question is, once I get a 383, shouldn't I want maybe a 700-800ish cfm carb? I don't want to buy a new carb with a lower cfm than what I could use later. If I put a 750cfm or so on my 350, is that going to be way too much carb that it will have severe negative effects? I'm just trying to do the best for my money and plan ahead. Also, anyone know what my stock '71 Rochester's cfm rating is? Don't have casting numbers on me, though..

Thank you.

750 vacum sec. for auto, 750 or 800 dbl pumper for stick shift and you'll be in good shape with the 383
