Do you use a bench vise to hold the cap (with soft jaws)? Have any of you tried the proform rod splitting tool? If so, can you use it with bearings in the rod?
Thanks,
Doc

Smack 'em with a hammer. I use a small ball peen and tap the cap side in the off direction.

I wouldn't recommend hitting them with a hammer; the rod companies don't even recommend stamping the rod numbers on them; they want you to engrave them instead.

I answered on another board, but a rod vise to hold the cap end and gentle rocking/pulling of the rod is the way I recommend.

Rubber Mallet. That's what the shop did on mine. Beat the caps off with the rubber. Mine were on so tight you couldn't budge them with your hands.

A block of wood and a hammer works, too. I use a short piece of broom handle. You need something to absorb the shock.
