You can download a PDF on the many issues related to the measurement of resistance. This document does a good job of explaining Kelvin measurements (why a two wire DVM is not the best way to check wire, especially high current carrying wire like battery cables).
While the purpose of the document is to get you to buy an industrial level instrument it is mostly filled with useful info. None of us would likely buy their stuff as it is far too much money.
