My dad won't let me add any new parts to my car for performance (new carb/intake is what I'm mainly after-he says changing something will hurt the value since it's matching number SS and 'is not what the car is for', but we're not selling the car anytime soon and it's supposed to be a muscle car..anyway). I'm wondering if I do or have done any machining to the stock heads, will I get a performance gain? If so, what kind? I only have a 2-bbl carb so I'm wondering if even then there won't be much performance gain. I do not have the casting numbers on hand but I do know they're stock from '71 on a 350 block, and they have the bigger cc combustion chamber. Thanks if anyone has any input. I'm running a Crane Energerizer 272 HE if that's important.

I cannot elaborate on the heads question except to say there is performance to be had there. But, why not inform dad that an intake and carb swap are not irreversible and will do absolutely nothing to hurt value since the original equipment can simply be put back if you choose to sell.
Me thinks dad's real motivation is to keep you from getting squirelly and wrecking or he thinks you cannot handle any more power. He is doing it without simply saying "No". The "lost value" argument just doesnt hold water given that you will retain the original parts.

To 90% of Chevelle seekers getting rid of the 2bbl. and putting a 4bbl. on will most definately make the value go UP! If it was an LS6 or a 396SS or something that is a different story. If it was a 2bbl. and you still have the stock heads then they probably have little 1.72" intake valves and arent worth putting time or money into.
