: C5 Front/Z28 Rear disk swap parts
64BeachBum Jan 28th, 08, 1:27 PM I have "collected" all of the parts necessary for Front C5 disks and rear Z28 (95') disks besides the lines, master cylinder, booster etc. I think I can use a stock style booster, however I am unclear about which master cylinder and distribution block and proportioning valve to use. Also - what diameter lines to use or can I just use the factory stuff. Hopefully someone has done this and has a "recipe" for all the parts needed. Also what length wheel studs should I use front/rear. Any help would be appreciated as always.
Dave Hopkins Jan 28th, 08, 3:57 PM I have the c5 setup on the front of my 72 ElCamino but I bought as a kit, it used drum brake spindles, drum brake hubs that they machined down the portion that centered the rotor, longer studs I woould guess 1/4 to 1/2" over stock. Aftermarket rotors for a C5 from stainless steel brake company and a billet adaptor from spindle to the C5 caliper that is made in Canada (BC area) held on with a couple large bolts one of which was a countersunk allan.
I used stock lines, power brake unit and proporioning valve. It all works fine, I would like a little more boost, have contemplated a smaller MC
64BeachBum Jan 28th, 08, 4:04 PM My setup will be similar, stock drum spindles machines to for custom made brackets, along with machined hubs. I need to replace everything anyway such as MC/Booster so I figured I might was well see what the options are.

BTW there was some issue with the copper washer on the brake line banjo bolt, you have to use the C5 banjo bolt as the caliper is metric. The SAE size washer was loose on the bolt. I think the issue is the bajo bolt can be loose in the brass fitting but the washer must fit the bolt or it will leak. I went to the NAPA store and they had a washer assorment, found one that fit the bolt (12MM??) and all was good.
You can email me davehopkins@windermere.com and I can send a pic
64BeachBum Jan 29th, 08, 11:46 AM Thanks Dave. I did send an email Anyone else have a similar setup?
MJRIBEIRO Jan 29th, 08, 2:16 PM Mine should all be on in the next two weeks. Bought flex lines from Kore3 - the banjo bolt is 10MM. I'm using a new SS line kit from inlinetube that repositions a 4 disc dist block to mount next to the MC. Allows me to mount an adjustable prop valve nice and close.
1966_L78 Jan 29th, 08, 2:39 PM Thanks Dave. I did send an email Anyone else have a similar setup?
I hada similar setup, except I never got around to swapping the rear discs (used the 4 wheel disc master with rear drums, no problems).
I ended up using a 67-76 Corvette master cylinder. I actually went to manual brakes, but they worked great...
No distribution block, and I just installed an adjustible proportioning valve in the rear brake line...
64BeachBum Jan 29th, 08, 3:13 PM Thanks for the input guys. MJ - I also found the Flex lines at Kore3 to be decently priced. I also liked the stuff at inline tube. 1966_L78 - do you know what the bore is on that master cylinder?
Would this idea work? Use the correct master cylinder/booster, connected to all of the factory lines, including the frame mounted (4 Wheel Drum) Dist. block. Then install a prop valve along the rear line? This is the setup that seems simple to me anyway. Thanks again.
MJRIBEIRO Jan 29th, 08, 5:26 PM it would work fine - but to maintain the low pressure idiot light you'd need to plumb the adjustable prop downstream of the block (as you said). That's not too adjustable in my book. I'll take a picture of mine tonight. It's not mounted yet, but you'll get the idea.....
MJRIBEIRO Jan 30th, 08, 1:07 AM Ok it's mounted....

1966_L78 Jan 31st, 08, 1:13 PM 1966_L78 - do you know what the bore is on that master cylinder?
Not sure, but I recall 1-inch...
I just went into the local autoparts store and asked for it by application...
