: New Bests...
kjett Nov 1st, 03, 9:25 PM All runs today were 10.8x or quicker except for one pass when I forgot to releases the emergency brake. Made the entire trip down the 1/4, return road and back to my pit area before I realized the brake was on graemlins/clonk.gif
Best pass of the night was as follows:
R/T - .696 graemlins/boring.gif
60' - 1.534
330' - 4.417
1/8 - 6.854
MPH - 101.01
1000' - 8.972
1/4 - 10.774
MPH - 124.90
D/A for that pass was 2,100' :D Although this pass is only .02 faster than my previous best, I should point out that the previous best of 10.79 was ran earlier in the year this year (March) the weekend before I put the car in the shop for the roll bar. So at this time the car had no passenger seat, no rear seat, no carpet or underlayment, no heavy rubber floor mats and no roll bar. Tonight the car had full interior (one poly race seat on the driver's side, rest of the interior stock) plus a 6pt roll bar AND I was running in worse air. I'm guessing the car weighed 125+ more lbs tonight than on my previous best. Since my prvious best I've added electric water pump, electric fan, coil over front suspension and relocated the battery. Defintely making more power now.
6 passes today were (in order) as follows:
Run #1 - 10.87@123.76
Run #2 - 10.96@121.66 (brake on)
Run #3 - 10.80@124.76
Run #4 - 10.82@124.48
Run #5 - 10.79@124.74
Run #6 - 10.77@124.90
60' times were 1.546, 1.554, 1.538, 1.544, 1.549,1.534
I believe the battery relocation helped. Commerce has a really poor starting line and the fact that I ran within .02 in 60' all day is encouraging, and if you throw out the second pass when I ran with the emergency brake on the car only varied by .01 in 60' all day! I'm really pleased with the progress I've made with my car this year. I've got one more race in South Carolina next Saturday before I call it quits for this year. I really think the car has a low 70.x or a high 60.x pass in it with good air. Not bad for a 10.3:1, rectangle port, dual plane intake 454 in a 3,700lbs car smile.gif I'll try and post some videos tomorrow. I had two races with a wedge Belvedere. First race I ran 10.87 to his 10.84 and the second race I ran 10.82 to his 10.81. Looked like something straight out of the 60's. A number of older people commented on how *cool* those matchups were.
I think my car is ready for bracket racing next year. I've decided I still need quite a bit of work on the tree. I had a couple of good lights today 5.05 and 5.24. However when it starts getting dark I have trouble with the tree. I either leave too early or get to freaked out about red-lighting and leave too late. Just need some more seat time I suppose. A killer fun day, no doubt graemlins/thumbsup.gif
mc71454 Nov 1st, 03, 9:33 PM Great runs Ken...
Did the air get better? from 10.87 to 10.77? That's what it looks like +1 mph also.
I am having Withdrawl Already...5 1/2 Months till my first day out in 2004
Doug F. Nov 1st, 03, 9:35 PM I take air out of my front tires if I race from day into night and it seems to help being able to leave at the same time.

I am having Withdrawl Already...5 1/2 Months till my first day out in 2004 Thanks, Tom. The air got some better but not a ton. The D/A on the first pass was 2,800'. A guy I pit with was a digital weather station (perform-aire?). I can't believe how hot it was here today. The high peaked at 85 degrees, although the humidity was pretty low. On the first run I shifted at 6k in every gear. I wanted to make sure everything was cool with all the re-wiring I did to my car. I had a grounding issue first thing this morning before I put the car on the trailer and it was running like do-do. All the other runs I shifted where I normall do, 6,500-6,600.

Depending on the day, he adjusts his front air pressure to keep his reaction time consistent. Waaaaayyyyyy beyond my levels of tuning. :D
Congrats on the new best. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Fix your sig now.
427L88 Nov 1st, 03, 10:43 PM Kenny, that's AWESOME. And sure do wish you had a vid of the run vs the Belvie! Very cool.
kjett Nov 1st, 03, 10:50 PM Thanks, Jim.
Gene, I just reviewed the video tape. Wife's got copies of both runs against the Belvedere, although the vantage point isn't great. I'll get them converted tomorrow and post them. damn, those Plymouths can run!
BillsCamino Nov 1st, 03, 11:02 PM Dude...what do you do, write this on your laptop on the way home? ;)
I left the track around 7:30 tonight and you were still there!
Not a bad day...
Mike made it into the final 4 in Trophy class. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
And the Nova FINALLY back in the 9's after a 2 1/2 yr hiatus.
mr 4 speed Nov 2nd, 03, 8:21 AM Ken,awesome man,friggin awesome!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Bob West Nov 2nd, 03, 8:32 AM Way to go Ken graemlins/thumbsup.gif You don't run a transbrake do you?
blaauboer Nov 2nd, 03, 9:12 AM That's great Ken......Glad to hear it's back in the 70's......I'm also done for the year but that's O.K. with me......I'm enjoying driving the car just about everyday....I'm going to take some freeway pics today.......
kjett Nov 2nd, 03, 10:36 AM Thanks for the comments.
Bob, I do have a transbrake but it's not allowed in the footbrake class (Sportsman) that I run in. Consequently I've tried to launch on the brake twice during non bracket races. Both times the launch was so violent that it forced me to shift into second gear immediately. Someone suggeested moving the switch to the steering wheel. It's currently on my Cheetah SCS shifter. I will probably just not use the brake. To be honest it's too scary smile.gif
BigRed-L72 Nov 2nd, 03, 11:32 AM graemlins/thumbsup.gif kjett do you use a electric pump drive or is it a full on electric pump?
How good is it cooling, race and street?
What kind of fan?
Sorry for all the ?`s but I`m thinking about making some changes too.
Nice improvement with the added weight and all!
10secBu Nov 2nd, 03, 12:10 PM Congrats Ken graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Glad to hear the car is running so well for you.
Hey, how's that fancy new truck doing? graemlins/waving.gif
Doug F. Nov 2nd, 03, 3:05 PM Yea, dropping the pressure increases rollout and helps when you see the lights quicker at night. I vary my front tires from 38-45 PSI. Experimentation as usual helps, luck does too. I let a car go around me yesterday bracket racing at the finish line by .0015 yesterday in the third round after treeing him pretty good. Might have cost me the points championship this year. I hope not

I have a full electric water pump (CSI) and a twin puller Flex-a-lite electric fan. In all honesty I copied GateRacer's setup nearly to a tee smile.gif It seemed like a killer setup and I haven't been dissapointed one bit. I haven't done much street driving with this setup, but I can tell you that cooling is a non issue. I have a big Griffin aluminum radiator. I've left the car idling for 10-15 minutes between rounds in the heat and the engine never went over 190 degrees. I'm running a medium sized water restrictor and no thermostat. I feel this setup is totally streetable.

Hey, how's that fancy new truck doing? graemlins/waving.gif Thanks, Todd. I really couldn't be happier with the car at this point. Runs like a dream. As for the new truck, it's awesome. I took the family for a hiking trip through the mountains today. Drove about 110 miles round trip through the hills of the Apalacian Trail. Truck knocked down 18.5 mpg!!! I get right at 14mpg towing at 80MPH with the air on smile.gif I highly recommend the Duramax. This thing has tons of power.

GRN69CHV Dec 3rd, 03, 9:36 PM Ken,
This is probably a dumb question to ask you, but.
Hopefully you have kept a log book of all of your runs: Air temp/humidity, track temp, tire pressure, coolant temp, timing, jet size. Consistant reaction time, good record keeping, accurate tuning = win at brackets.
