View Full Version : Front discs for a '67 Chevelle: Mix and match

My Dad's '67 Chevelle had original manual drum brakes all around. We're going to convert to power brakes with front discs. I've got the following parts from my '72 LeMans that my Dad and I want to use on his '67 Chevelle:

- Master cylinder (power brakes)
- Upper control arms
- Front spindles with factory disc brakes

The stuff from my LeMans is recently rebuilt, so we want to re-use it.

Now I have a couple questions since I don't know how universal things are for brakes on the A-bodies.

1.) Does anyone see any problems with re-using any of the parts from my LeMans on the Chevelle? From what I've found so far, it looks like we should be able to re-use this stuff.

2.) What brake line kit, booster and proportioning valve should we purchase for the Chevelle? Should we just order pieces that would go on a '67 that came with factory power front discs? Or do we need something else?

If there's anything else we need to be aware of, please mention that, too.

Thanks for your help.

I can't speak to the 67-72 interchange. But for lines you can go with a kit from inline tube or right stuff. I bought one from inline tube that moved the valve up next to the MC, up off from the frame. I'm also using an adjustable proportioning valve.....

From what I understand, all 64-72 A-bodies interchange spindle-to-spindle.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

My Dad talked to Inline Tube and we'll probably purchase what we need from them.

I found disk brakes on a 71 nova x body. That i would like to put on my 66 elcamino. From what i understand they will work, but they are rear steer and the elcamino is front. Will the steering knuckel off the stock drum spindles work on the disk spindles?
Thanks for any help .

ok ........... on the proportioning valve you need the one from the leMans not the 67!!

you also don't need the lemon valve that the 67 would have had ....

you need to keep the two types of disc calipers 67-68 are 4 piston & SPECIAL

69-72 are single piston an easier to work on & cheaper to repair !!!

you need to order all the Correct parts for the LEMANS !!! it will bolt right on !!!

I believe you swap the knuckles left for right.
