Are you sure you can get away with those kind of lift numbers with Vortec heads, everything I've read has said .525 max. What pistons?

yea i'm getting matching springs for the vortec heads and will require a little mahineing, and my pistion are speed pro forged 9:5:1 compression with 64cc heads.

are you referring to the 305 magnum?

to run that cam you need all of 11 to 1 comp, more stall, and more gear. in my honest opinion that cam in a 9.5 to 1 350 with 3.73s and a 3000 stall would be a dog. i calculate a low 6.92 dcr in that combo.

i think a cam with about 270 degress in total duration would suit your combo much better.

i just got of the phone with tech support for that cam and they said 9:5:1 is the compression you want and 3000 stall is perfect for it.

Well,,not to argue with "cam help professionals" that are reading the same catalogs you can but I think Brandon is right, if that's the 305 magnum it is not going to be happy in a 9.5 compression 3.73 gear car :D

That "Tech Support Guy" graemlins/sad.gif guy has his head in his azz!

With that cam you need 11:1,4.11's, and a 3500 stall to be any good.

He just told you what you wanted to hear in order to sell more cams.

What cam are we talking about?

With .525" lift / .560" with 1.6 rockers he may be talking about the Magum 294s, but who knows, we're all guessing.

Look for something much smaller both lift and duration. The Vortecs won't flow significantly better at .560 lift than they do at .480 lift anyway.

I would try something with about 280* advertised duration, .480" lift, 108* LSA. It will go faster than 305* duration and .560 lift. Trust me.

I agree, but even the 294s,ain't gunna be that happy with that compression and gear in a 355.

I'm assuming it is the 305Magnum as well.If it was the 305 it would be a turd.

In a hydraulic I would look at the 280 or even the 270 Magnum.

Or from their XE line the 268 or the 276.

Or from CamMotion the

H2211-2551-10+4
221/225 471/471 110

H2311-2362-10+5
231/236 486/501 110

Or there is two Engle HYD's that look good

271/271 222/222 471/471 110

277/277 230/230 489/489 110

Or if you want a nastier idle the Isky Megga line is good.

270 221 465 108

280 232 485 108

My point is...You don't want a cam with 305 or even 290 advertised duration.
A cam with 280 will out perform it all over the place and give a lower QTR mile ET.Hell even a cam with 270 will tare it up on the bottom and beat it to the end of the quarter using a lower RPM shift point.

This is only because duration figures are much better matched to the compression, gear and stall giving a better, wider ,more usefull powerband eating less gass to boot.

Ok Ok....we know the cam is too big...but be honest..who here has not installed a too big cam b4..I know I have...and until I did..I would not believe that bigger wasn't better...It will be a turd...but it will sound BAD. I think its best to install the wrong cam...then you can see how much better the right cam is

Sorry if I come off sounding like a royal azz.
I am just once again flabbergasted by the so called "Tech Line" people.

I so wish this world wouldn't revolve around big businesses trying to turn a good buck into a VERY BIG BUCK!!! graemlins/angry.gif

Friggin GREED!!!

And if you are dying to run a Comp then the 268AH or 270H will work better than either the 280 or 305 in your combo :D
