Here's the link http://www.radiosforoldcars.com/newradiochevelle69.htm
Just wondering if these sound good and are comparable to today's modern stereos.
I don't have a harness so I guess I'll have to make a harness to hook it up.
Anyone have any advice before I spend my hard earned $$$$$$$$$?

I haven't seen these before but 600 bucks is a lot of frigging dough for a head unit...
I have an old 1970 Corvette FM stereo unit...this thread has me wondering if I ought to hook it up in my car along with an amplifier just to hear what it does sound like...

I was wondering how long it would be before people take notice of the shift on how people appreciate these original radios.
I was discussing this with the person who restored my British car radio (I was looking for an original am/FM for the Chevelle), and he mentioned that there are a couple of companies working on (actually on the verge) manufacturing original looking radios with updated internals.
Has anyone here noticed what an original am/FM radio for a 66 chevelle is demanding now? I saw one sell for $1987 on Ebay just a month ago. I've called every junkyard and even private individuals (selling parts) and they all are asking $1500 minimum for an unrestored unit.
Watching Ebay like a hawk, I finally got lucky and snatched one up for $730 just last week.
On a funny note. I caught my old chevelle pop up on Ebay a few months ago, and when I asked if he still had the original am/FM radio, he told me that he had sold it for $25.
I'm sure he wasn't too happy once I enlightened him that I paid $550 for it about 6 years ago (restored) and they are fetching several times that amount now.
..my advice, strive for an original one and just augment it with a cd player or something else.

The problem is original AM/FM ones are bringing this much or more depending on condition and they don't have the newer internals.

I asked the same question on Team Camaro. Here's what I've found out so far over there.

The question I have is who is gonna make a good set of speakers to fit a 70-72 SS? I was considering having new guts put in my AM radio but I'd hate to spend $400 on a radio and be stuck with some crappy speakers. I looked at one of the links for repro speakers but when I contacted them they said they were only as good as stock with minor improvements. I guess my only option is to hide some speakers somewhere else or to go from stereo speakers to a center dash speaker where I can at least fit a decent speaker. I'm talking about a 70 Elcamino here so speaker options are limited.

They look pretty good to me. I read through the specifications and they do state that the "nose plate" are die cast and chrome plated metal (not plastic).
Pull up an image of an original one and compare them.
I'm pretty particular especially when it comes to such a visual thing as interior components. I wont even buy reproduction gauges because the lettering don't look right.
