I have a 1966 Malibu and the car's components (block/trans/body) all have 1966 numbers and it looks to be all original.
My question... Can you link the engine with the body and find out if it is the original motor? Every book I have allows you to confirm numbers on each component but no way to link them all.
Thanks for any help...

Thanks for any help...Sadly small blocks normally didn't any additional information stamped on them like the big block SS cars with a partial VIN. About all you can do is ensure the casting date (and numbers to a degree) are 'date correct'. That is, the engine components should be close to each other and all should be before the final assembly date.
Just my opinion, but chances are probably better than average that if all major components are dated correctly, they'd be original to the car - only because the odds of getting a rebuilt block or reconditioned heads off the shelf (so to speak) are probably fairly low given the interchangeabilty of small block parts over the years.
Alan L. Colvin's "Chevrolet by the numbers" does state that most transmissions in Chevrolet's since the 1962 model year have a partial VIN that can be tied to the car. Colvin's book is also a good source for casting numbers of major components.

Not to mention... folks aren't generally FINDING CORRECT parts to make a Malibu appear matching Numbers.. so if it looks like duck.. walks like a duck.. it's likely Matching!
