Please help me identify the automatic transmission that I have.

Tag rivited to the passengers side : 77 P 322 and below it on the same tag
77 CP 22573

The only other markings that I can find stamped on the tranny is- general motors corp cast on the passangers side at the bottom edge of where it bolts to the motor. The pan says turbo hydromatic and is in the shape of what a th400 should be.

It was with my 67 chevelle ss 396 and before I get it rebuilt I would like to know what I have and if it will work on this car.

Thanks
Larry

I'd guess:
77 ~ 1977 model year
P ~ Chevy C-30 series truck
322 ~ Nov 18 (322nd day of the year, i.e. Nov 18, 1976)

77 and CP see above
22573 ~ Transmission serial number

Honestly don't know if there was a change in bellhousing area in 77 or trucks for that matter, sorry. :(

Need a serious TH400 guru here to help with internal or external specifics.

Thanks Dale-- hopefully someone else will chime in as to if it will work on my 67 chevelle.

Ok upon further review Dale is correct it is out of a 77 pickup with a 454. Will this work in my 67 chevelle ss 396 without any problems and/or modifications (other than driveline)?

Thanks

Here's a link that should cover it, also do a search...Normally pickup TH400s have a bolt on yoke. Check the end of the tranny output shaft for the dreaded threaded hole.

I guess I should have asked, was the TH400 physically mounted in the car or just part of loose stuff that came with it? If the car didn't come with a TH400, there are some differences in the crossmember, driveshaft, etc. from a manual or PG car.

Dale- the transmission was bolted to the block with two bolts and has since been mocked up to the rebuilt motor (not all bolts installed) it lined up with the dowel pins. The crossmember will bolt to the tranny and matches one of the sets of holes in the frame (I would presume I have the correct crossmember), the driveline is another story- it has a slip yolk on it and the tail shaft of the tranny is set up for a ujoint to bolt direct to. The car was a PG car originally.

I think other than the driveline issue it should work. Am I correct?

Thanks
