I got my first job washing cars in the local shell station at the tender age of 15.The year was 1967 and I guess every car was pert ner a muscle car.Customers thought nothing of trusting their big block chevelles/mopars/etc. to a 15 yr old kid.In those days hemi cars,6pack,shelbyand of course big block chevys were just another car to repair.I also remember that most of the local minmum wage factory workers owned one these cars.In late 1968 I remember the sack boy at the local HG Hills grocery showing up in one of the plainest chevelles I had ever seen.It was drab green little chrome manual steering, small hubcaps and no air.Only after closer inspection(4spd-427)did I realize that it was what we now know as a copo.My point is what we now consider musclecars were pretty common and attainable when they were new and this was in a small town in tennessee .Enjoy em if you can find em !:beers: dbull

I had a friend in high school that drove a Yenko Camaro. It was just another Camaro to us back then. Also, the girl that lived across the street from us in 1971 was driving a Daytona. I remember saying, "That is the ugliest, stupidest-looking car I've ever seen. I wouldn't be caught Dead driving that ridiculious thing!". Ahhhh, if we only knew then... http://cantweight.net/files/Smiles/faint.gif

Hill's? We had one of those when I was growing up in Ohio back in the 70's. I haven't heard of that store in a long time.

Hey David, you are sooo right. My first car was a beat up old Plymozene. That's mostly why I am doing this now. Now I have the money to do what I wanted to do as a kid. My best friend had a butternut yellow 56 Bel Air convertable with a 327 in high school. It was a beater that he bought for $600.00. If he only knew.

Welcome
Chuck

My Dad, a retired chevy mechanic of over 40 yrs, tells of old engine parts they used to throw away at the dealership.

Z-28 302 blocks, cross ram intakes, holley carbs, dual snorkel air cleaners to name just a few, whether it be warranty work or customer upgrades.

To this day he still shakes his head at what was thrown out.

I use to work at a transmission shop last year and the rebuilder use to tell me stories of cars of long ago lol. One particular story I remember is he use to have a 1969 Chevy Nova SS with a 427. He had it back in the 70s and use to race it at the local dragstrip on the weekends. Eventually from years of racing, it wore out and spun a bearing. He pulled the motor for rebuilding with parts from a salvaged 427, and parked the car at the back of the shop. Months went by and one day it was stolen! To this day, he never recovered the car... BUT there is a happy ending. He held onto both motors and still has them to this day. He thought back then they might be worth something in the future and boy was he right!
