I'm building a 383. internal balance 4340 crank, h-beam rods. going in a '65 chevelle with a tko600 and headers. anyone have good/bad experience with oil pan/windage tray combos? brand recommendations?

If you don't plan on taking the stroker above the 7K mark, don't worry about a Windage tray.
The most you would need is a scraper plate, which is the small rail that runs on the side of the oil pan.

6500 is about all it should see. got any good scraper plate recomendations? I assume that it will have to be clearanced just like the block unless it is made for a "stroker".

If its a daily driver I would stay away from Mildon's " diamond stripper " windage tray. They seem to break into peices after a year or so of track only use. Dont know how long they would last being driven daily.

I've read (Vizard & Yunick) that above about 4500 rpm a tray is a good idea and really helps. I don't have any specific recommendations, through.

If its a daily driver I would stay away from Mildon's " diamond stripper " windage tray. They seem to break into peices after a year or so of track only use. Dont know how long they would last being driven daily. That wouldn't be good. On the last smallblock that I built for myself I made my own windage tray and crank scraper. I made the scraper so it bolted to the pan rail on the block with 5 small machine screws which were locktighted in place and the scraper was also partially sandwiched by the oil pan when installed. This took about three weeknights to do but I'm sure the shape and fit of the scraper to my combination of parts was better than anything that I could have bought. It revs better than most of the comparable engines that I've built in the past. I have a pattern made for the scraper if I need to make another one down the road. Bob
