I know there is no break-in as we know it for a roller cam (solid in this case) but what do you guys do on assembly?? Assembly lube or just oil on the lobes and/or lifters? Is anything else different? All my past experience has been w/ flat tappet cams. Thanks, John

For initial break-in I like to soak the lifters in non-synthetic 30w (castrol) and on the lobes and journals I use a 1:1 of the castrol and STP engine oil treatment. Also, if your using a cast iron dist gear on the cam it's another reason to stick with dino based oil.

Johnny, it was pleasure talking with you the other

Keep us informed on how your cam install goes. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

When I installed my lifters, Ron Iskendarian (Isky) recommended that I use their "RevLube", (which is an assembly lube that Isky sells)and a small syringe to "inject" the lube into a couple of small orifices at the base of the lifters by the roller wheel. This forced the lube right into the needle bearings. Ron said this works better than just soaking them in oil. Had them in for about 5K miles with no problems. graemlins/hurray.gif

Thanks guys for the ideas. Of course, Im going to go by what the cam maker says also, but I like to get an idea of what others do or have tried. I like these ideas. Darren, thanks for your info also, I'll be talking to you again. John

When I did mine, I cleaned them real good and blew them out with compressed air, then let dry. I did soak them in 30 wt oil, but wound up taking them out of the oil bath several times and rolling them on a flat surface to work the oil into the bearings better, then returned to the oil bath. I did this a couple of times and feel they were well lubed when installed.

Almost forgot, before lubing the lifter I soaked them real well (about a week or so) in acetone and then used compressed air to dry them out.

For assembly, I used the Isky RevLube on all "contact" surfaces. The roller wheel, both ends of the push rods, and the the tips of the valves.
