I going to be running a 396 with 10 to 1 compression with casting # 215 heads. I have a bunch of parts from a out of business performance shop. I plan on using a mild street cam like a performer when it gets together. My question is I have a set of Comp Cams dual valve springs 930-16 from that shop. I assume this are way to much for the engine and not needed. My heads are getting ready to be dropped off a shop to be redone. Any advise would be great.
thanks

my main goal is to not look like an idiot in this guy's shop. The heads are bare and need springs anyway. thanks

Too much spring IMHO and experience for that cam
You want Crane spring/retainer kit CRN-13308-1

Can you use .050" taller keepers to lower the pressure some?
Or juggle retainer type to do the same thing??

My expierence is pretty limited on springs, cam selection and so on. I having my heads rebuilt at a shop. Would I be okay running stock springs with a performer cam. I will probably sell these springs as I will never use them. thanks

A cheap Summit SUM K1301 cam and kit should be the E-brock Performer cam at 218/228 and .500"/.500" lift and it goes for like less than a "C"-note including lifters "S"&H.
Generally stock springs were used on .398"/.398" and .398"/.430" lift cams so shouldn't be used for bigger cams. Even the 350 and 360hp engines springs are imho, light-duty jobbers even tho those cams are higher lift at like .461/.480" lift.....
Please consider buying the correct set of Crane's kit springs for your heads. Probably kit PN 13308-1 for the 1.88" installed height kit.
Be sure you get the right kit b/c early heads install at 1.88" and later heads install at 1.80"!
And they both use different springs and height retainers!!
Check this CLOSE!!
(OR heavier-duty stock type springs from Comp Prod's.., PN 2427)...
