Ok I am having a wierd noise comming from my engine. Its a 454 with req port heads, hyd roller cam (crower 01403LM in.563 ex.587) just changed to that a few weeks ago, also have 924 comp springs. The noise just started up today its seems like it is comming from the drivers side valve cover, sounds like clanking metal at 2000rpm and above, its not a steady noise just a sound like ball bearing in a can. I checked all the roller rockers and see no problems, Could it be that i didint get the cam sprocket bolts tightend down right and there comming out and hitting the timing cover? The noise is not there at idle but when i gas it its back.

Is it RPM related? When you checked the rockers, did you roll the engine over and take a peek at retainer/valve guide clearance? I'd recheck valve lash using the EO/IC method, slowly and eyeballing for any tight clearances.
Do you have full floating pistons in the motor?

Its got pressed fit piston pins. This noise just started up today, been fine for the past week. I think i am gonna change all the springs and retainers to the ones crower recommends maybe that will fix my problem.

Always use the recommneded springs or ones with same spec's.

Pull the valve cover and look for witness marks. The rockers may be hitting the valve covers. At the very least, you can rule this out. Steve

Checked everything and it turned out to be a broken innner valve spring dampener, Amazing how one small part will be so loud..

And that wasnt all, 1 set of hyd rollers were alomost destroyed becasue of the binding of the broken valve spring so am gonna have to repace that and the camshaft. No more comp cams valve springs for me...

You may have a lower installed height on that valve causing a coilbind condition or in this case a damper bind. Be sure to check the installed height when you replace the parts or another failure may occur. You should be able to fit a paperclip between at least three of the coils at full valvelift which is equal to about .060, if not look for other options like locks with +.050 installed height. Check everything out good, I can't see how the broken damper caused the lifter failure if the spring was ok. Coilbind could break both parts for sure. Bob

I don't know how you can blames the springs on that one. Looks like you werent clearanced for that kind of lift
