I was wandering if anyone knew how wide of a tire you could put on a 1972 chevelle without cutting.

Do a search on a thread with a spread sheet for members wheel tire size and back spacing and type of wheel. Good info and you can see what everybody is running. A lot with pictures to see how they look too!

There can be some other factors and you should really measure/understand your ride hight and axel/wheel mounting position ... plus brake dynamics. Finally there will be some fit options given the brand/type of rim and even tire. If I recall you can use 67 axels and gain some ability to decrease your back space thus giving your rim a deeper look from the front. On a 69 I have 17X10 with 275/50 .. and will be using a 18X10 305/40 at least on another 69. My guess is you have 12-1/2 inches from frame rail to inner lip of the frame well so I'd assume your stuck with nothing wider than a 11 inch rim (note a 10" inch fat lip edge to edge is 11"). Play it save select 19-17s on 10 inch platform .. put 295s-305 to give a wide foot print. Rim guys can confirm your back space Front's most run 8 inch around a 245/(45) you can get some potential rub depending on your A-arms and sway-bar if you push around 265 and beyond. The aforementioned is my experience - good advice given above to copy the specs you see on another 72 you like.

It also has a link to the spreadsheet database mentioned above.

i think tires are about the only thing that i cant even think about getting. i have no clue at all one what rim i want or what style tire or what can handle the HP or even the long road trips. i cant wait to see what you pick out.
