At what spring pressure rates do you need stronger valves? I have a fairly agressive Cam Motion solid roller cam going into my 406 small block, the closing side of the ramps are rather gentle. I do not intend on using 'stock' valves, but at what point are stock valves not strong enough to withstand the spring rates and quick opening and closing of a solid roller cam? What is a good budget minded valve for my intended usage?

Also, for open spring pressures of 500lbs (for example) what pushrods would be nessecery?

Cam specs are:

ADV: 297/303
@ .050: 256/265
Lift: .610/.609
LSA: 105

Thanks for any help!

Hmmm..im going to run a simular cam motion flat tappet..except the lifts are .587-.590 and the LSA is 109 in my 406. I am going to run manley severe duty. I had to get longer valves anyways. Im also losing my energizer rockers for some comp pro magnums. I will use titanium retainers. a stud girdle. The springs are still up in the air

Adam,
Just a few of my thoughts & opinions ;)
If you are building a roller engine do not consider "economy" valve train parts.
The two do not really go together & it costs a hell of a lot more to do it twice. ;)

That said, it is not too much spring pressure that usually breaks valves rather to little. If you control the valve train you have a much less chance of hurting things.
If you start "tossing" valves open instead of gently opening & closing them you will break things.

My suggestion is to use good parts. For lifters I feel the two best with the exception of Jesels are the Isky Red Zones & the Crower with the Hi Pressure Pin Oiling option. For valves I usually use Ferrea Comp Plus in a roller engine unless it's a Titanium deal. Then I use Victory but they are a bit pricy :D
There are others that are very good but I won't use "budget" anything in a roller engine.
This includes but is not limited to valves, springs, retainers, keepers or pushrods etc.
Any good quality 5/16 .080 pushrod will be fine like Trend, CV, Comp etc.
