I have a 1968 CE 396 motor. Have a set of big block heads from a 1975 motor. lso have a Edlebrock Performer 2-0 intake.
Problem is intake will not bolt to both heads at the same time. When I bolt it to one head there is a gap between the intake and other head. Can any one help with this dilema? Never saw this before, almost seems as if there is a spacer that goes between the intake and heads.
Thanks.

Sounds like your heads were milled so you intake would have to be milled if thats the case or the intake flange of the heads. Maybe the intake is for a different deck height engine?

You have a tall deck engine. You need a set of these. click (http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_747509_-1_11941)

Gee, something new every day...tall deck 396s?????
I don't think so......
You are absolutely sure it is a 396, right?
I do assume here that you have intake gaskets mounted, right?
How wide is the gap?
Has the block been decked, the heads milled, and is the intake or 2nd hand?
If all the above, a little plus a little, plus a little... equals a lot of tolerance stacking.
Pictures would be helpful.....

There were two sizes of tall deck motors from the factory. There was a 366 and a 427. No other factory sizes were made.

what George said: "How wide is the gap?"
if it's like 1/4" - 3/8" on both sides you have a tall deck block from a truck. But, tall deck truck blocks cames in two sizes, 366 and 427. no 396s.

Chas,
Are you trying to use the rubber or cork end gaskets ? If so, try the manifold without them first. If the heads or block have been milled at all the end gaskets will hold the manifold up too high. It is also possible that the heads or block or both have been milled a bunch, if so you may have to use thicker gaskets, Fel Pro makes them.

Well, it is a 3916323 block, with a CE# stamped on the front pad. It has not, from what I can see, ever been decked. Can read the pad numbers really well. I do have a stock intake from a 69 chevelle motor that fits in perfectly, no gaps at all. So I am thinking the intake was for another big block application. We got the edlebrock with the motor when we purchased it. It has at most a quarter in gap, only on one side when the other side is bolted in place. If any one knows what this might be for I would appreciate some help. Or if someone could use this and has a stock 396 intake dated 10-11 of 67, and would like to trade let me know.
Thanks.
