History fascinates me. I love reading historical books and watching movies with a historic touch. I really admire the archaeologists who spend days and nights in preserving history. It’s such a challenging job to bring historical remains back to their original state. It at times pains me to see how magnificent structures get ruined over the centuries.
Once while browsing the net, I came across something called dry ice blasting and how it is used to clean historical structures. I have no idea whatsoever on this thing. I am a little curious to know about this.

Hi Maria. Welcome to team Chevelle. Bench Racing is where topics not related to Chevelles or El Caminos are discussed. It sounds very interesting.
Welcome to the group. Tell us about your car or the one you want to get.

they use small chunks of dry ice to blast the surface with, as you would use sand blasting, but it leaves no residue, or extra material for clean up, it is not wet as it goes from solid to gas with out becoming a liquid first.

That's right. Great for removing smoke and fire damage too. The CO2 sublimes and the only cleanup is the removed material.

I use one at work daily and it is NOT like a sandblaster at all. It may look the same but ice can come in either a large tub with media looking like Minute Rice that gets loaded in. Another smaller type uses a block of ice that is shaved into fine particals. The big unit at work uses the Rice style media and if you accidently hit a hand or finger MAJOR PAIN! This machine can and will remove flesh down to the bare bone instantly. It will not remove paint or rust but if anything is loose it will be gone. The smaller units can detail in jewler or dental detail.
