I just had my rear bumper rechromed. Looked great when I picked it up and inspected at the dimly lit shop and even in my garage. Next day after I mounted the bumper and got a good look in the bright light of day.. it looked terrible. It looked like it has tiny specs.. almost like it was a fine metalflake or has a light coating of dust on it, that doesnt wipe off. Looks fine in dim light, but in bright light all these specs show up.

I am going to complain to the chrome plater, but I am wondering what might have been the cause and if I should trust this guy to redo it again.

Ask him to redo it till it's right.

Sometimes it is better to cut your losses and go to someone else, but I dont know if it was an honest mistake or not. I was realy trying to figure out what might have been screwed up in the rechroming process to cause this, so I could make the assessment.?

They might just need to rebuff it out?

Bring it back, just explain it looked good under artificial lights but looks bad in sunlight. I ran the chrome shop at work and lighting makes all the difference in how a part looks. Under some light the chrome looked great and under inspection lights HORRIBLE. Take it back and have them redo it now. Stripping new chrome and replating it is no big deal.

Get it re-done. The shop, if they're worth anything, will stand behind their work and fix it.
