: time slip analysis please
ovelle Oct 23rd, 04, 6:57 AM made two runs bad bad traction both runs
1st run
rt 630
60' 3.292
330' 8.437
1/8 11.885@72.62mph
1000 14.773
1/4 17.442@82.06
2nd run (tryin to ease into it without spinning still quite a bit of spin)
rt 485
60' 2.535
330' 6.481
1/8 9.579@79.36
1000 12.263
1/4 14.544@98.78
let off because belt flew off second run
and still havin' carburetor issues
and traction issues
what kind of times are hidden in these slips
i dont have the experience to calculate any of it.
how far from a solid twelve am i?
thanx

TriplblackL78 Oct 23rd, 04, 7:47 AM i would say about 10 mph away from a solid twelve, (you need around 107,108mph).
first thing i would do is put a bigger carb on it, since you are having issues anyway, and that will soften your bottom end a little, might help your traction improve. try at least a 750cfm.

Bob West Oct 23rd, 04, 9:12 AM my son ran 13.60's @ 98 mph in his truck,,moved engine to his Cutlass and ran 13.41@ 100 mph. It appears that you are capable of those times at least if you can hook it up.
ovelle Oct 23rd, 04, 1:48 PM this whole carb thing has got me pulling hair
very dissapointing when i can build a solid motor but cant seem to figure out whats wrong with my carburation i spent a lot of time on figuring this combo including carb size bg tech said
650 mighty would be the correct choice from bottom to top...is a 060 350 with 200 cc intakes
and 10:1 comp 280h with 3000 stall and 4:11's
gonna need more air than a 650,could it be the carb is delivering the fuel but not enough air???
is this my overly rich condition???
seems carburation to get it right is a daunting task.i guess its all in experience..

RB69SS396Conv Oct 23rd, 04, 5:03 PM You've got a decent motor combo, who knows if it's "optimum", but it should ET ALOT better than those runs.
1. Solve the traction issue!! All else is a waste of time, until you can hook up whatever power you're already making. There's more to going fast than the motor. What are these traction problems? Spin, wheel hop, or what? Does it spin one wheel, or both? If it's yerbasic sit & spin, you need tires; if it's wheel hop, you need suspension work.
2. How do you know you have carb problems? What does it do? Does it bog at the line, or run great through 1st and second and then fall flat all of a sudden halfway through 3rd, or blow black smoke out, or what? Each of those things will require totally different adjustments to the carb. Without more detailed info, it's impossible to even make a W-A guess what needs to be done.
Slowpoke70 Oct 23rd, 04, 7:52 PM For comparison, my friend has a 70 velle, 350 .03 over, "RV" cam, manifolds, Q-jet, TH350, and 3.36-3.55ish Posi rear and he runs 9.39-9.49 times at about 75MPH, with a 2.1x-2.2x 60ft times.
Your MPH on the 9.5xx run is almost 5MPH higher than his is on a run with that ET, but your 60ft is slower. So I think your car at least is capable or running 9.00 1/8 ETs, probably even better.
ovelle Oct 23rd, 04, 8:42 PM rb69,
it doesnt bog off the line, doesnt run out of fuel
it just smokes at cruise at full throttle any speed but mostly full throttle..just cruising it smokes, makes your eyes burn (xhaust cut just before rear end)some stuff i have read says if you have to go 8-10 steps below stock jetting you have the wrong carb.67/74 jets and 4.5 pv. is what i have pink cam with 28 squirter also

Slowpoke70 Oct 23rd, 04, 8:59 PM Try a different pump cam? My box stock 600cfm carbs come with 64 or 64H jets up front, so you're already going pretty low on the primary jets. My 600cfm also has an orange pump cam stock, I had another 600cfm carb with a pink cam and it never ran right, always either super rich (black smoke) or very lean.
RatONaStick Oct 23rd, 04, 9:07 PM have you checked your float level and fuel pressure?
float level should be set to the bottom of the sight hole, and fuel pressure should be no more than 7psi.
ovelle Oct 23rd, 04, 10:31 PM fuel pressure is at 6 psi according to gauge and floats are middle of sight glass.wondered if needle and seat were to big cause at times going over bumps or rough roads it would get even richer
so i opened hood and shook car up and down 7-8 times watched fuel pressure gauge fluctuate then fuel spill out of vent tubes and stalled so i went to a 97 needle/seat from the bg 110
that problem fixed i guess i'll get the pump cam kit and see what happens, but at cruise i'm not even using pump shot..i just think something is wrong with this carb.sema is next week here in vegas i'm gonna see if i cant maybe go see doug from bg tech while he's here.

RatONaStick Oct 23rd, 04, 10:37 PM the float level is your problem, you need to set them to the bottom of the sight hole. the needles/seats have nothing to do with it.
you would be surprised how much the float level can affect the mixture.
