: Put my Chevelle on a Diet
OutCast Jan 23rd, 08, 11:08 PM Between wanting to add a scoop to my 80# steel hood, and getting depressed every time I looked at my gout front fenders, I had to make a move.

It's not for everybody, but I couldn't pass it up. I figured by the time I jerked around trying to dummy up my rusty and bashed fenders, I'd have a couple gallons of bondo in there, and they'd still be lame. So I'm just going to unload them for what I can get for them, and blow off the 3 hoods I've got, and it should be a wash for the cost of the 'glass front end and shipping.
I realize the multitude of hassles to expect with the new front end, but I've secretly always wanted one. Add a new glass bumper, and I bet old Fatty is lightened up 100-125# or so.
Kind of gives it a bit more of the race car look I'm after. Should be good for another .10 or so ....if it doesn't break into a million pieces and cause me to wipe. :D
So many guys on this forum upgrading their rides lately, felt I better get on the program.
66 Buick Special Jan 23rd, 08, 11:14 PM Did you buy this John or just showing an example of your plan?
As far as I'm concerned you should do whatever makes YOU happy.
Now all you need is that 871 with two Holleys sticking through that fiberglass.:D
OutCast Jan 23rd, 08, 11:21 PM Yes Greg, we're an owner. Talked to 'Mike' from Ohio yesterday and today. Got the shipping, border hassles, and delivery all worked out. It leaves Ohio on Tuesday. He's building a nice little crate for it and going to package it up nice tidy.
'Glass front end from outfit in Vancouver $1200 +taxes+ freight
'Glass front end from Ohio buddy $150 +$300 freight
41 years old and an owner of the front half of a funny car....Priceless.

Put THIS under the hood! I need it outa my garage and into the Elky
Edit: Brett, now I'm hanging pics ok. Thx.
Edit2: Ooops, I wasn't supposed to show this here...needs to be in Greg vs George!
66 Buick Special Jan 23rd, 08, 11:33 PM Awesome deal John!
Are you planning on hinging it at the frame or leaving it a lift off?
George.... bring it, I DARE ya'
Dave Jan 23rd, 08, 11:52 PM Cool, iff You need to, You can alway's ship it to Me, and I'll bring it up on one of My Occasional trips north.
OutCast Jan 24th, 08, 1:07 AM Greg, for now I will leave it a lift off, using Dzus (sp. ?) fasteners at the lower fender contacts, and using quick release hardware on the pencil struts at the front fender-to-rad support.
My original chrome bumper is in mint condition, (even has bumperettes), so I think I'll sell it and get a 'glass bumper mounted to the 'glass frontend for really easy lift on/off.
I need a rear bumper, as the orig. chrome one I have has a bad prang in it, so I was going 'glass out back anyway. At least now it will have a balanced look.
Down the road, when I get really tired of the lift on/off concept, I'll likely have my good welder buddy fab some kind of a tilt setup. I need to research that considerably.
Thanks for the offer to bring it up Dave, but I'll have it within about 10 days from Roadway Express from Ohio...hope it makes it in one piece.
As for now, I'm totally jacked about this recent score. I think moulding a 2" cowl on will be relatively painless, although I'm so old school and tacky, I'd really like to go with a 5" snorkel, saw one on a buddy's 68 drag Chevelle and I really liked the vintage look.
What do you guys think ?
Here's what his looks like...

FourEightyNine Jan 24th, 08, 1:20 AM Here are a couple pics of the style on that chevelle. These are my buds that run in Super Pro. I prefer the blue camaro style hood.

kettbo Jan 24th, 08, 1:21 AM Gads! Its the late 70s all over again!!!!!:disco:
I too like the Blue Camaro hood over the vintage rectangular jobs....
OutCast Jan 24th, 08, 1:34 AM Wow. Very nice looking cars. That Chevy II looks ultra clean.
66 Buick Special Jan 24th, 08, 1:43 AM I think you are going to spend a lot of time looking at your car imagining different scoops on it.
You'll pick what'll make you happy. Whichever one puts the biggest smile on your face when you look at it gets my vote.
FourEightyNine Jan 24th, 08, 2:05 AM You are correct that chevy 2 is very nice. See all of those little oval stickers in the rear driver window? Those are season championships from a while back.
Oh and did I mention its got a mouse in it....the 355 version:D runs 10.30s in the 1/4
66SSFan Jan 24th, 08, 2:42 PM That chevy II is probably the cleanest one I seen in years and it has not changed in appearence in atleast 15 years. Its one of my favorite cars at Bremerton.

OutCast Jan 24th, 08, 3:14 PM Great Pictures Mike.
As I scrolled down, I saw that red 64/65 ? Malibu and thought yep...going with the snorkel. Scroll down further and see that Bad A$$ elky with the aero scoop. Guess I'm back to the drawing board.
Thanks guys , these pictures are awesome. Some very fine looking rides at Bremerton.
Hope they let trailer trash like me play there with my beater. :)
66 Buick Special Jan 24th, 08, 3:35 PM John,
They let me through the gate, I think you're safe.:D
