: Is rusted spring perches a problem?

I have a rearend I am putting in the velle and having a few issues. The spring perches have some rusted out holes on the inside (or the cup shaped part) about 1/8' wide and 1/2" across. I asked a welder if he could fix, but he says it wouldn't work. Should I be worried about this or not? I was thinking about epoxy putty or even POR-15. Only other option would be welding up new perches but even the one's I have seen are rusted in the same area. It's not the load bearing part so how much effect would this be if it kept rusting out?

Thanks for any help in advance, Gary

What are we talking about, the rear uppers in the frame or the lower end on the axel

The perches on the housing is what is the issue. I will try and take a picture to better clarify.

A welder should be able to fix it up unless the holes are really out of control. Maybe he thought you were talking about the cast iron section. A pic will definitely help.

I wouldnt worry about that, like you said, it isnt load bearing.
