Hey Jim !
I replaced a clutch in a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT with the 2.0L about 2 years ago . I never removed the engine , just supported it with a twist pole and a block of wood ( I did it on a lift ) . I remember it being a pretty simple job , except for two things ....
1 - I can't remember exactly what it was , but the clutch assembly did not come out like a regular set up . There was a pin or clip that had to be removed and from what i remember , the whole set up came out with the trans , and not left on the motor like every other clutch job I did .
2 - I could not completely remove the transmission from the car because of the lack of room / space with the engine in the car . But I had no problems securing the transmission over to the far left ( against the frame ) and reaching in between the engine and trans to work .
Like I said , it was about 2 years ago and with all the many clutch , engine , transmission , and head gasket jobs I did , my mind is a little fuzzy on that except for what I mentioned above .
The only reason I remember exactly what year , make and model the car was , is because a friend of mine has the same exact car and I remember telling her " When your clutch goes bad , I'm not going to replace it ! " ... haha ... But I was teasing . It really ain't that bad at all , I just remember somthing odd about actually seperating the trans and motor and it had something to do with the throw out bearing or the fork or something in there . As it said , it's a bit fuzzy in my brain .
but if nobody else chimes in on this one , drop me a pm if you have any questions ... it'll all come back to me I am sure !

thanks for the heads up. I just took it out and I really dont think the clutch is slipping, it sounds more like a throwout bearing. maybe the tranny itself? If your rolling and put it in nuetral its quite, if you put it in gear when your driving, its got a kind of hum. its definetly with the motor trans. I checked the cv shaft and wheel bearings. Im thinking maybe a worn clutch assy. When I hit the clutch to shift gears the pitch changes. Any input its greatly appreciated. thanks again. jim
