Does anyone know if this trim is available ?
The brushed aluminum trim between taillights with the reverse lights in it.
I saw this on one in a salvage yard couple years ago, when I went back a few weeks later to get the elky it was gone . Seems as if I have seen a few more with this brushed aluminum trim but can't find it anywhere.

Jeff not the upper and lower trim , but the brushed aluminum in between
and has the Chevrolet emblem in it , most I have seen are black.

I've checked The El Camino Store and it isn't listed... I'm wondering if it was added. Looks to be typical ribbed aluminum panel. You might also check full size Chevy truck tailgates. Seems our old '93 Silverado had it.

I'm pretty sure that area is paint, not a brushed aluminum part that is attached. The SS had black paint in between.

That's what I thought too Brett, but remembered seeing this one and also a couple more with the brushed aluminum piece on there.
Must have been something fabricated to fit .
Looks good on there may have to see about fabricating one for mine :D

Hmm, I have trouble believing that multiple people would have fabricated a piece like this all the same. If you have seen it then it must exist, I have never seen one though. Would be easy to make your own out of think aluminum sheet, brush it with steel wool, then clear it to keep from oxidizing.

Could it be something from an old J.C.Whitney catalog or Pep Boys?

considering that the woodgrain inserts are just plastic inserts, i imagine this would be the same, just look like brushed aluminum...

Must be somewhere you can get some decal material to look like that...

Having a common body style (1970), I can say with conviction that I have never seen such an aluminum trim piece offered from any of the parts suppliers as a reproduction piece. As a matter of fact, I didn't know such a piece existed. But then, up until a day or two ago, I didn't know that '70s had a bright metal trim piece that was located along the bottom of the front fender extensions. Just when you think you know it all, something new comes along.

Sounds like you just might wind up fabricating your own piece - or - calling around to some of the suppliers that deal in used parts. There's a bunch out there but two come to mind:

i might have your answer, my 70 i bought looks exactly the same! came from a sunny hot place, when i got it here & washed it or after it rains, its wood grain!!! the decal turns silver from being bleached by the sun, the wood grain comes back when wetted. hope that answers it. if you need to see the wood grain for sure, just pop open the tailgate and look where the decal wraps around to the inside and is shaded from the UV light.
