I'm seeing lots of ads lately on Ebay for 178 and 879 exhaust manifolds and the descriptions include a statement that "reproduction manifolds are NOT the same".

Here's an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Chevelle-Camaro-402-454-Exhaust-Manifold-3909879_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34203QQihZ005QQ itemZ150208226615QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Granted, repros are not NOS, but anyone I have talked to who seems to know says the reproduction exhaust manifolds are pretty darned good.

Any thoughts?

anything to boost up the price of the auction. Everything else reproduced in China fits like crap, why shouldn't the exhaust manifolds too.

I have had very good luck with the repro manifolds. They are some of the nicest repro parts out there.

The repros seem to be pretty good, but as always, it depends how correct you want to be. I can name at least 5 different minor changes in these manifolds between mid-67 to 1970 that will identify them to me immediately as for which year they are for. I also could pick the repro pair out of any pile of manifolds as they have some distinctive features. So if your aim is to be authentic, the repro is not an option, but if your aim is to have a resonably priced set that you can use to drive and enjoy the car, the repro is about your only option.

Where did you get yours? I don't know if I will find a set of date correct. Or when I do, may not be able to afford them. I might have to settle for repo's.

Thanks. Ebay had a lot of differant ads. Found some for $309.00 "Buy it now" kind of thing. Will they appear and perform like the originals?

Diamond Judge summed it up pretty well. There are small differences, but most people looking at your car won't notice.

I put a set on after I broke one of my originals. The fit is good..perform well and look very close to original but as Jeff D said there are definatly identifing features that tell they are repros..my originals are fixed now and will be back on the car soon.
