Well, Harold, since Jerry was so helpful with his 11th post, I can tell you then that your 396 big block was assembled at the Tonawanda engine plant, on September 27th, and is a 325 horse version, with a manual transmission, used in the Impala car line, and the H indicates it came factory with a Holley carb, so I am going on a limb here and guessing the engine is from a 1966 . You'll have to find the casting date on the block. I think early blocks were dated on the side of the block, above the oil pan.

What is the vin stamped on the pad next to the T0927IAH? The casting number is probably 3855961 and it is 66 as that was the only year in the 60's chevy used the 3 letter suffix.

That is what I was thinking, because the Rochester carburetor plant was on strike, carbs had to be outsourced. My dad bought a 66 Impala new and it had a Carter on it, he said the mileage sucked so bad that he traded it back in on their old 62SS that they used to own.
