i am thinking about putting a 700r4 in my 66 chevelle...is it a lot of work or would it be a direct bolt in??? what other transmisions would be a good choice??? what do i have to do to make the 700r4 work in my chevelle??? it's probably gonna have a small block 350 with a mild cam

From all I've read a 700r4 will fit but you will need to move the crossmember back, change the trans mounts, plus do some mods to the floorpan to make it fit. The 200r4 is a better choice because it's the same lenght and size as a powerglide/th350; its as close as you can get to a bolt-in; even your stock driveshaft will work.

I have a 67 with a sbc and a 700r4 i had to shorten the drive line can't remember how much and move the cross member back no big deal just slid it back and drilled new holes. the servo was tight but a hammer fixed that. the dent i made isn't even noticeable in the carpet so you wont be beatin the crap out of it just a small dent i also put a shifter from a 95 camaro in, the cable fit nice cause it was a straight shot but have since taken it out, didn't like the way it looked so i put the tci outlaw shifter in and got the 3' cable, routing the cable so it shifted smooth was about the hardest part. :)

You are in LA and there is a great resource very close to you in Huntington Beach. http://www.cpttransmission.com/ This is the real Art Carr. He has been great to work with and will be able to help you out. I bought a 2004R from him and will be running it as soon as the salt gets off the roads around here. This guy is a legend and has been building transmissions for about 50 years.
Good luck

what Mstehle says, atr carr is the best, he does not do 700r4 only 200r4 i think they are an easier install than the 700. LoL:)
