From what I have been told, these heads are identical almost. They cc the same, etc. Went to a swap meet and picked up a set of 781s and a buddy picked up some 049s. We were just wondering which was better, what their weaknesses were, what work do I need to do to them etc.

I searched and could not find any information that I needed.

049/781's are the same..alittle port clean-up and adding the 2.19/1.88 valves is all you'll ever need with them.Milder applications can get away with the 2.06/1.72 valves..it all depends on what you want

049's have a larger or better flowing exh. in stock form than the 781. The cc's are as follows on the runners. 049's int. (255cc) exh (119cc) 781 int.(256cc) exh (114cc) graemlins/beers.gif

I've got a set of both, 049's were stock except larger valves (2.19/1.88) in them on the old motor, 781's on the new motor have 2.25/1.88's and polished up nicely with intake ports gasket matched and exhaust ports opened up quite a bit.

HEY YENKO, when you get that baby done, you need to bring her down to Somerset for SomernitesCruise!

We need more Chevelles at the cruise!!!
I have seen the #781's go 9.90's in a 69 Camaro so, they will definantely support LOTS of power.
