ok, i have a 223 in my 59 truck, it has a draft tube, and a filtered oil cap. i hear this is defeating itself, that either i need to pvc vent and block of the draft, or cap the valve cover with a solid cap. right now the truck runs fine, but on grades, blows oil out the draft. the truck blows no smoke out the exhaust.

is it really that simple? i can just throw a solid cap on?

it needs a vented cap with the road tube (draft tube) to prevent high internal crankcase pressure. this provides a flow of fresh air to remove the engine fumes. you can add a PCV with no consequence but it may still blow oil out the tube or on my 66 283 i installed a PCV where the road tube normally would be and kept the vented cap. works fine.
