i have this posted in the engine section also, wasn't sure which one to list it in. im looking at buying a new (to me) motor for my '63 Chevy C10 because the conn. rod in my 350 decided to exit via the oil pan. anyways my neighbor has a 396 (402) motor that decoded out to a 1970 Truck 310 hp 402. the motor is complete minus intake. it has 063 heads. he also wants to sell with it a set of 702 heads, and one other pair of large oval port heads, 2 factory low rise cast iron intakes, and an old edelbrock torker II intake. what do you think this is all worth assuming it is a core motor and the block is a 2 bolt main?
thanks,
chris

the last 396 i bought came from a 1970 c-10 pickup and it ran..it was as well the 310 factory rating.....i paid 400 bucks running.....i have bought total basket cases for just a trade of sbc heads ....i have paid 50 bucks for block and heads....i have paid 100 bucks for block crank and heads, i have also paid 200 bucks just for a decent set of heads,2 bolt or 4 bolt really dont have any value more or less.....the 2 bolt is very strong and will take a beating.....cast iron intakes are about 10 bucks each not to many want them....unless peroid correct for someone, torker 2 intake is worth about 40 bucks to the right person, 702 heads about 100 bucks to the right guy, the 063 are worth alittle more i would pay about 200 bucks for the set, so that leaves the the engine left.....300 bucks would be good amount to pay........depends on where everything was stored at....as well.......

I've sold stock, good running 396's and 402's for anywhere from $700-1200 ("CE" code blocks I always charge more)
..these are drop in,running motors that you could leave alone,or add a cam to.

..everything else what ddeennis said

ok, this motor has beeb stored outside and had water sitting in the number 1 cylinder/intake runner. it was only like this for a couple days but i think i could use that to my advantage. i plan on doing a total rebuild on it. so im guessing 3-400 tops?
thanks,
chris
by the way this site ROCKS!

Let me know..........the 69 heads 063 would be a better choice for HP or to install the 2.19/1.88 valves. I belive because they have a slightly larger chamber 101cc as opposed to the 98cc on the 702 head. Most people prefer the #215(68), #063(69) or the #290(70)for performance use over the 65/66/67 heads. I'm just looking for 66heads for my 66 396 buildup. THANX AGAIN
