A couple weeks back there was a thread on here about the ugliest cars. I thought the AMC Matador was a puker until I saw this one for sale locally.
How could anyone arrive in grace to a function driving this? It's a '58 Lincoln. LOOK AT THE FRONT VIEW HEAD ON.
Is this the one that Johnny Cash put together from parts??
Who would pay $2,000 to start with?

1958 wasn't a banner year for styling. There's story as to why that I can't recall.........

Anyone else know?

Those '58 - '60 Lincolns were were unibody yet were 5000+ lb. cars. At least they had 430 c.i.d. under the hood (huge for '58).

I hear you on the ugly.

It's ugly but also kind of scary looking, like christine or something haha :( wouldn't want that car parked on my driveway even if it was given to me for free.

You would be very surprized at what that car would bring if it was restored.
Big Money...
Thats the kind of car Presidents used to ride in.

Neil Young has a 59 that he's converting over into an electric powered car. Looks the same as the 58 mostly.

tom, i always thought the matador was horrible as well. this car? yeah, ugly, but if nicely restored i'm not sure it's as bad as the 'dor. no matter how ugly something is, seems there is a loyal fan base for the few remaining, un-crushed units. look at the '59 impala. ugly as homemade sin and they go for as much as a comparable '57 belaire. the '58 impala wasn't much of a looker either and they are the most expensive impala to buy now. the late 50's, early 60's was a bad era for cars in general.

I'd like to see Chip Foose get a hold of that car and see what he could do with it.

Yeah, I suppose that a nicely restored one will have quite a crowd around it at the local cruise night. Just trying to figure it out I suppose. And to the owner who restored it, he/she may just like the attention it gets positive or negative. It has two bids already.
And the '59 Impala is a good example - the '59 El Camino has a lot of style in an odd way too.
Now this Lincoln.........the image is sinister- like the car the bad guys drove in cartoons. Put a set of 'Boss Hogg' horns on the hood and it will give anyone nightmares for life.

I thought early 60s mopars held the Fugly title untill now  but I reckon George Barris could have done something with it.

Well the auction just ended. It sold for $3,900 bucks.
Holy crap.........the NightmareMobile sold for more than a nice looking car in that rusty condition would.
I hope the new buyer doesn't live in Maine.
I'll need medication and therapy if that thing pulls up beside me at a cruise night.
Take it away - make it go far away.............

styling gone beserk, the 55-57 models of several automakers were bastardized starting in 58 with quad head lights and other add ons for the sake of change. Beginning of short lived "fin" era. 58-60, fear of nuclear war, Period of excess.
