: Poly Engine Mounts

I just purchased some Energy Suspension polyurethane engine mounts for my big block. The mounts came with a spacer for each side. Are these spacers necessary, it seems like they will change the mounting distance. Any thoughts?
Thanks

I have them on my big block. If I recall, according to the install directions, they are mandatory.

I tried to install them with the spacers and the mounts will not lign up (at the same time anyway).

:noway:not spacers - the plates compress the poly-plastic making the mount stiffer, directions call for them and they come with the mounts, 1/8"-thick on each side should not make the mounts not line up on the frame stands:confused:

they are perload plates and are to be used!! i think the use of the mounts without them voids the warranty and states possible failure without them!! the shouldnt change the height or line up if used properly??
I have them in my 71 chevelle and the 68 vette no issues here!!

I have them on my small block with the pre-load plates installed and they fit fine. As far as I know the motor mount blocks that attach to the frame are the same for the SB and BB (excluding the 307) so they should fit fine!

There isn't any poly on the backside of the engine mount, just steel. Now the tranny mounts have poly on the backside and I used the plate there. I tried everything to make it fit, but the bracket (after one side is bolted) is a bout 1/4 inch off.

If you are using a factory fan and shroud check your fan to shroud clearance at the top of the shroud, these mounts tend to raise the motor about 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

Are you supposed to leave the mount to block bolts loose until the block mount is connected to the frame mount?

I might not understand the terminology or the question , but if it's any help, here's a picture of how they look on my setup....

Excuse my ignorance on this subject... Someone told me to try short and wide mounts, instead of the tall and narrow ones that I have. Any thoughts?

My car was an original 307, the bastard child of engine swaps. Go to energysuspension.com and they will describe the diff's between the two. I first bought the wrong ones, spent some time bending and ruining them, before I found out there were two types for 307 mounts. The ones you see in my pic's are the right ones...duh.

the short and wide ones work for 68-72 bb and sb i am not sure of the earlier models i think the tall narrow are for early 60`s model chevys like 63-4 etc..

Yahoo! Problem is solved... The short and wide mounts work great and with little effort.
