: 32-18.5x15 MT sportsman tire pressure
Milan Oct 21st, 03, 4:39 PM Does any one have an idea of what tire pressure to start at, for these huge meats? They are the MT sportsmans NOT the sportsman pros. What would be the best place to start. The car has an all aluminum interior 488 gears a 454 BB and a th400. converter is 3000 stall approx? on the street it blows the tires off even at 35 mph with light throttle accel. also The tires have been around a while(several years) should I do a long burn out or just a 3 count? I intend on replacing the tires next year some time just want to get a couple runs this year.
thanks
Milan

M/T Sportsmen tire is that they ain't gonna hook

Milan Oct 23rd, 03, 9:16 AM I think by big tire cars he meant backhalved. The safety thing is in reference to the tires being several years old.
I understand the tone behind the reply and thanks!

p.s. I Still gotta try it
mls48341 Oct 23rd, 03, 9:27 AM RWELSH,
You're right, I was a little vague.
Let me clarify my OPINION.
The M/T Sportsmen tires have in MY experience
not been the BEST for traction on MY cars.
I believe them to be fine for street driving,
and they look great.
What I left out of my previous post was that I
would follow the manufacturer's guidelines on
pressures.I have seen tires spun off the rims
due to growth on the top end at speed and it
usually spells wreck.I was merely stating that caution should be used, particularly in that lots
of folks start dropping pressure to try to achieve
traction and this is sometimes the unintended result. Also, high speed handling can get hairy as well.If all of this somehow offends you, what can I say,it's reality.

You beat me to the punch!
Glad my concerns were taken in the manner
intended!I am in no way "bashing" the M/T
product line.

Milan Oct 23rd, 03, 9:30 AM Mark what does your bird run?
mls48341 Oct 23rd, 03, 9:41 AM Milan,
This is a new car,85% complete at this point.
I am tinning the interior right now.
Hope to be complete and ready for spring thrash!
Our intentions are mid 10's.The motor is 630+ H.P.
I haven't weighed the car yet either but should be
just under 3000 lbs.
This is my second backhalved car.
I previously owned a '80 Z-28,427,9 inch.
That car had 32 x 18.5 Mickey's, and would not
hook at any speed.

Its pretty obvious that your opinion was not shared - that is, Milan's safety concern reflects the age of his tires and yours the tire pressure.
My only concern was putting the comments in perspective and I thought a little more clarification was warranted. Communication and understanding should never be assumed - better to beat the point to death than leave it to interpretation.
So what have you used that allowed your car to hook?
mls48341 Oct 23rd, 03, 11:15 AM Sorry about the spelling, no offense intended.
I use Hoosier on the street.
Do what ya'all want, just tryin' to be helpful,
debate over...... redface.gif
Milan Oct 23rd, 03, 11:20 AM Mark no need to be sorry! I was asking for help and you are the only one who offered it!!!!!!!!! I dont give a ratz arse if someone is offended by the mispelling of their name!! start another thread and do your bitchin!

headerfire Oct 23rd, 03, 11:25 AM I gotta set of 29 x 15.50 x 15 M/T Sportsmans on my stout running T-Bucket(Chevy Powered)
If I put anything over 10 lbs of air in them, the car hops around like a jackrabbit on crystal meth.
The only thing I dont like is that they 'flat spot' after sitting for awhile. graemlins/clonk.gif
Milan Oct 23rd, 03, 12:11 PM hops around like a jackrabbit on crystal meth
THAT is funny.
Do they hook up at all?
