Merry Christmas
I will christmas money to spend received as gifts. I want to purchase the carb, intake and cam for my 1970 Malibu, 350 cubic inch stock engine ( now with 2 barrel carb). I like Edelbrock. I want a 4 barrel carb...Can she take more than a 600 cfm model? I need a intake with a distributor hole. I don't want anything that could rise the carb up to hit the stock hood. Now the biggest question that I have...What cam shaft? There are so so many to choose from. Car now runs about a 16.4 second 1/4 mile (unofficially) I want to get to the low 14 second 1/4 mile. I know you guys can help...please give me you recommendations for these items.

Simple:
For you Carb, if you want edelbrock and dont plan on doing much after this, get the 1406 600cfm carb, if you plan on working on the engine further, head work etc. get hte 750cfm. A nice holley 650 would be perfect for the motor though.
For the intake everyone will tell you the same thing, the Performer RPM, you will not have clearance issues with that carb, intake, and a 3inch air cleaner (im running it smile.gif )
For the cam go with either hte Comp xe262 or the xe268. The 268 has more top end and horsepower, but the 262 has more torque down low but less horsepower, its personal preference. If you dont plan on doing any further work, your best off with the xe262 though, the 268 will benefit from headwork.
Edit: You may need to upgrade your springs with the cam, i already had upgraded mine with my first cam (the wrong cam) so i wont have to do it again, but if it recomends a specific spring, deffinantly get it. You may also upgrade your timing chain, edelbrock recomended a specific one for my previous cam, but it will work with my new cam too. Dont forget all the little parts, your going to probably spend atleast 300 bucks getting everything installed, and if you get an edelbrock carb you are going to have to do some fabrication to get the cable hooked up right smile.gif

stock hood clearance on a flat hood is dif than the SS bigtime Chad, ur sig says SS...
I had to get a drop base for my 3in filter to clear with a performer and holley carb, but it did have a spacer under the carb at the time
I would definately get new springs and timing chain with the cam. I would also get 650cfm carb at least, just in case.

I would put the Summit Racing SUM-1103 with .442-.465 lift at 214 & 224 @ .050 You can get those at about $80.00 for the lifters and cam. Just for info those are Crane Blazer, Edelbrock, Blue Racer cams but a lot cheaper price. It will have a slight lope at idle.
For the intake I would install the Performer RPM or the Performer RPM Q-jet. You have the same low speed characteristics of the regular Performer but about 500+rpms better pull.
For carburetion I would go with a 750 cfm vacuum Holley. Jet it a little leaner. Should not have to play with the power valve with the above cam. If you go with the Performer RPM Q-jet intake you could put a Q-jet on it without an adapter. I built a 400hp 406 with that combo. It was good enough for 12.64 in the 1/4 with the Q-jet. Either one of these combos should be good enough for 14.00 or better with traction and at least a 3.31 gear.

whoops overlooked the non cowl hood part :/
id recomend getting a set of summit 1 5/8 headers while your at it if you haven't already, if your brining more air in you better have the means to get it out smile.gif
