: Why? Why me?
quikss Jan 19th, 08, 11:52 AM So as some of you know my mom is in the hospital battleing Luekemia. My 84 year old grandma decides to drive to the hospital yesterday to sit and visit with my mom. Grandma has a 98 Lumina. She locks the car and goes in to see my mom. I get to the hospital last night with my wife and girls and grandma is still there:confused: She needs a ride home. Her key fob for unlocking the doors doesn't work (it locked the car but won't unlock it) and she doesn't have any idea where the door key is:angry: So now I get to sit outside on the coldest day of the year and try to open grandmas car and then bring it to her house as she left for the weekend to go visit some of my cousins out of town. She already had a new battery put in yesterday, so I think it is a matter of getting it to resynch, but it didn't work last night, so I am going to go try again.
Why would you get rid of the door key?:angry:
By the way, I do love my grandma very much, it's just these types of things tend to aggrivate me.

Dean Jan 19th, 08, 12:05 PM I think I would just call a locksmith.
Dean Jan 19th, 08, 12:12 PM Just had a thought
Got a friend that drives a wrecker?
My granddaughter locked her keys in her car a while back so I called the guy we use for hauling our trucks home (he lives up the street a block or so)
He had the door open in about 3 minutes.

That is what is going to happen if I can't get it to resynch today.
Would be so much easier if grandma would have KEPT the door key.:clonk:

Dean Jan 19th, 08, 12:22 PM Guess she figured she didn't need it :)
Fixing all the family's cars, I get aggravated when sometimes they take the ignition key out.
I say you think someone is going to steal you car out of my garage? :clonk:
MEJ1990TM Jan 19th, 08, 12:30 PM Thats what old people do.
They make rooms smell funny, and they annoy you to no end. :p
Bowtie70ss Jan 19th, 08, 1:04 PM Get the VIN# then go to the dealer and have them cut you a key. Shouldn't cost more than $20.
pdq67 Jan 19th, 08, 1:13 PM He, He!!

450HPChevelle Jan 19th, 08, 1:40 PM Hey Jeff,
I locked the keys in my 2000 chevy truck one time. I called a friend of mine thats a locksmith. Instead of making a key for my door, he took his key from his chevy astro van and opened my door.
I did the same thing again:clonk: a few months later and tried the key from my wifes chevy venture. With a little wiggling and turning back and forth the key unlocked my door!
If you have some keys from other gm cars handy, I would give them a try first before calling a locksmith.
Good luck!
Byfield Jan 19th, 08, 4:23 PM Man, I'm almost afraid to open your posts at this point. ;)
Glad it was just a lost key this time

:D;)
If you should happen to see my grandma, as she is in stoughton for the weekend, tell her to come home and find the key for me!!!
My mom said not to worry about it today, give grandma a day or two to find the key. I forgot grandma has my aunts new malibu as well since her passing.
It is always something:thumbsup:

Better have the license number and proof of ownership ie: actual title, insurance ID card or current statement with VIN, etc. Call the dealer first to see if what you have that isn't the VIN will be acceptable (and see only that guy when you get there). GM is VERY particular, and when the partsman needs to get the keycode off the VIN, they must submit that they have seen actual proof of ownership or it's thier job and a potential legal battle if the car is reported stolen. They must enter the VIN, owner's name, plate number, and state issued in to receive it.
esponet Jan 19th, 08, 9:37 PM in my experience with those door remote, once the battery goes, its no good. not sure why.
OrrieG Jan 19th, 08, 9:47 PM Ditto, when I lost the battery in my wife's CRV last month wasn't enough power for power locks to unlock. On Honda's the fob is built into the key and you cannot lock your keys in the car. Push the button down and it pops back up when you close the door, either have to manually lock it or use the fob.

I can quite easily bring my grandma to a dealership only about 5 minutes from her home, so thats easy enough. I talked to her a little while ago and told her when she gets home to start digging around and see if she still has the key, otherwise monday we will figure it out. Sunday service call when the Packers are in the NFC championship game? That would be really, really, rteally expensive;)
