I am taking a custom metal fabrication class at the local city college. We are supposed to design projects that take into account different teqhniques of metal working such as cutting, welding, shaping etc... Does anyone have any ideas of custom things that i could make for my 69 el camino or cool things period? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance

A nice light metal fan shroud would be 'cool' ;)

Some square tube lower control arms with machined holes for bushings. Drill & tap the ends for hiem joints?????

Adjustable upper control arms???

Battery box?

Aluminum bed cover?

Serpentine belt system. Well, that maybe a bit much. How about a simple bracket?

alum. overflow bottle, driveshaft loop, cut round alum discs to fit behind your wheels to cover drum brakes, custom air cleaner... any tools you need? wheel bearing remover, balancer puller... these are some of the things i have on mine (along with previously mentioned fan shroud)...

Metal shroud was what I was thinking too... with louvers....

Something like this....

How big is this project supposed to be?

Eventually, I plan to build something like this for my '69. ...block-off the grille opening, build an air-dam/splitter, tilt the radiator forward, and duct the hot air out a heat-extractor hood. ...not needed for a typical street-car, but should reduce lift enough to make a brick like a Chevelle feel pretty stable at 150+mph :D

How about a ricer wing? Laugh all you want, but when you're done you sell it and buy your car something nice. If not, I second the bracket ideas.

Oh yeah: Derek, there's something in that pic that appears to be a certain bodypart sticking out....

If you want to do something custom, try Frenching in an antenna.

Lol, I thought the same thing.

Actually, I think it would be cool to build a bracket to mount a stereo in a glove box.

I saw some tool boxs at a swap meet last weekend that were shaped like the Chevy bowtie. Wish I had some pictures, they looked pretty good. I might even make one myself!!!
